Norwich City v Wolves
Sky Bet Championship
Tuesday October 31, 2017
The footballing rivalry between Norwich City and Wolves runs deep over many seasons. If you don’t know why then try mentioning the name Kevin Muscat in a pub full of City fans and you’ll soon find out the answer! Putting conflicts to one side, the two clubs have also shared a few players over the years with undoubtedly the greatest of them all being Iwan Roberts.
Described by many as one of the greatest goal scorers ever to pull on a City shirt, we felt it would be appropriate to pay homage to him on the programme cover against his former club. London based illustrator Daryl Rainbow met the brief and has created a superb piece of artwork, capturing all recognisable features associated with big Iwan – missing teeth, ginger hair and celebrating a goal for Norwich!
"I have been an avid football fan since my grandad gave me an Arsenal scarf when I was a young kid and have been fascinated by English football ever since. I was delighted when Patterns of Play got in touch and asked me to do the cover for the programme, as I’ve been keeping an eye on their projects for a while. The brief was great as I remember well from the late 90’s the image of Iwan Robert’s smashing in headers then celebrating with a toothy grin. I had an enjoyable time trying to capture his passion and his fondness for NCFC with my illustration. Hopefully I’ve been able to do justice to one of the club’s biggest legends."
